I'm trying to get new gear but don't want to spend an arm and a leg. What's best?
For the money I think Gibraltar makes some quality stuff. Heavy duty and seems to hold up well under pretty strenuous road conditions. DW of course is probably the gold standard. Very heavy duty and HEAVY but you certainly are going to pay for it.
I've polled many different back line companies to find out what they thought was road worthy hardware, since their equipment gets used so much. It was a unanimous answer. Yamaha. You can get the medium weight hardware that is not heavy, and can withstand a beating. I've had the same Yamaha hardware for 15 years. Still works great.
It just depends on the type of gigging you have. But your more popular brands such as DW, Yamaha, Pearl, Gilbralter & Mapex make good solid hardware whether it be light to heavy duty. PDP & Sound Percussion make decent hardware if your on a tight budget. My PDP & Sound Percussion gear I have is still in good shape & yes have used them on BIG shows, where I was slamming hard.
